Irish number plates

Irish number plates are really popular.

These are initially issued in Northern Ireland, but can be transferred to any vehicle on mainland UK.

They’re popular because they’re cheap (starting at less than £100), and they can be put on any vehicle of any age, because there’s no number plate age identifier. In fact, they’re regularly used just to hide the age of a car.

So what exactly is an Irish number plate? Here are a couple of examples.

UBZ 6032

GIG 4398

Up to three letters. Space. Up to four numbers.

And they contain the letter I or the letter Z. These letters were not used in mainland UK number plates (though Z is now used in current style number plates).

Although there is no age identifier on Irish registration numbers, these are different to dateless number plates (which were issued on mainland UK).

Take a look at this short video, which will tell you all you need to know about Irish number plates.
