Pink cars are hotting up

It’s becoming a phenomenon.

So much so that the latest Pink Car Rally took place just a week ago.

With over 7,500 pink cars in the UK, we’re loving latest trend for the girlie look in cars… with the pink number plate as a perfect accessory.

And even the PiNK number plate is taking off.

Katie Price is doing it. Paris Hilton is doing it. And so is Barbie.

And lots of ladies are joining in with the love of everything pink. And not just on the outside. Jordan is having the full leather treatment in her latest acquisition, the Bugatti Veyron. Paris Hilton shows off her Bentley. And predictably, the Barbie Beetle is in the mix.

Nobody wants to steal a Ford Ka

Why don’t Ford Ka’s get stolen?

The answer is simple – they’re just not cool!

According to a former car thief Michael Fraser, the Ford Ka is considered cheap and has no street cred. Michael was asked to provide some insight as to why some cars are more desirable to the thief.

Bizarrely, the Toyota Yaris is the most stolen car, according to figures from confused.com.

So, what does the Yaris have that the Ka doesn’t? Does it have more street cred? I don’t think so.

The Porsche 911, Seat Altea, Volkswagen Touareg, and Volvo XC90 are  the top four stolen cars. All cool, yes. Conversely, the Nissan Skyline is the least stolen car.

It’s likely that there are a whole bunch of other factors involved. If a car is easy to steal, more will get stolen. If it’s easy to sell on, it’s more tempting. So, surely it depends on the reason that a thief is stealing the car. If it’s for a so-called ‘joyride’ then sure – ‘cool’ is a factor.

More expensive cars will attract more thieves, but will also attract more attention if the thief is planning to ‘cruise’ around in it. And if the level of protection in these vehicles is high (with perhaps tracking devices and special encoded keys) they will be less likely to be stolen.

I’ll agree with one thing though. If a car stands out from the crowd with a private number plate, or flowers on the bodywork, etc it is less likely to be stolen as it will stand out and is more likely to be noticed. Flowers and pink fluffy toys are probably likely to put off a thief!

So… my tip for putting a thief off your Porsche 911? Paint it pink, put some flower stickers on it, and buy a personalised number plate.

Pink number plate border for pink cars

Pink car needs special number plate border

I’ve talked recently about just how popular pink cars have become in the past few years. There are over 7500 of them on the roads today – and I can only see that number going up!

What’s needed then, of course, is an equally girlie number plate with a pink border to go with it. That’s regardless of whether or not you have a private registration number on it.

We stumbled across this one. Not just any old plain pink border though. This one has little white hearts in it. And if you’re going for the full-on girlie pink look – this is just the perfect accessory.

We love this number plate border.

Katie Price adds pink Bugatti to car collection

Another car for Katie Price’s pink collection

We only recently reported on Katie’s new pink Range Rover, with the private number plate. Now she’s treating herself to a Bugatti Veyron, and having it painted pink!

We picked up on her tweet “Just left @afzalkahn getting this BUGATTI and he is doing it in pink can’t wait!do you like it?”

Katie published the above photo via twitter, showing the Bugatti in a stunning red. Personally, I much prefer the current colour – but Katie has decided to put her own stamp on it by asking Afzal Kahn to bling it up in pink – inside and out! The interior will get the pink treatment including the headrests and steering wheel. And Swarovski crystals on the gear stick.

Afzal Kahn has already pinked up the Range Rover, so this should be familair territory. He’s also known for buying the personalised number plate F1 for a record-breaking £440,000 in January 2008, when it was sold by Essex County Council. And for famously turning down an offer of £5m for it.

Needless to say, painting a Bugatti Veryon pink isn’t likely to go down too well with the petrolheads out there – after all, this is one of the fastest road cars on earth (with 0-60mph in just 2.5 seconds). And James May of Top Gear took the Bugatti Veyron SS to record-breaking speeds.

I’m no petrolhead myself… but even as a girl, I cringe at the thought of painting such a stunning car in pink. But I guess it’s just part of Katie’s ‘branding’.

Sigh.

Pink car rally for Little Princess Trust

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Pink, pink, pink!

I wrote previously about how popular pink cars have become recently, including Katie Price’s pink Range Rover with personalised number plate.

Little did I know that I was going to uncover a whole passion for pinkness!

Believe it or not, there are over 7,500 pink cars in the UK, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Ltd (SMMT).

So where are you all?!

One reader, Sali Gray, spotted our little article and got in touch to tell us about the annual Pink Car Rally.

The rally is in aid of the Little Princess Trust, which raises funds to provide wigs made of real hair for boys and girls suffering hair loss due to cancer treatment.

We think this is an amazing and fun way to raise funds – and it’s definitely unique! The first rally took place in 2008, with just 15 cars, including a Reliant Robin pulling a pink trailer. 2 years later, 39 cars took part – including a specially painted National Express coach. Sali herself has a pink Nissan Micra C&C Sport. And she’s been joined by lots of other pink cars, including Audi TT’s, a Mercedes, Ford Streetka’s, and even a Porsche. And this event can only get bigger, as more owners get to know about the Pink Car Rally.

If you have a pink car and fancy joining in, get ‘pinked up’ and get yourself down to Hereford Children’s Hospital on 4th September 2011. The convoy leaves at 10.30 am, taking a scenic route to Oxford. Looking at the pink car rally videos, it really does look like a great day.

The 2012 Pink Car Rally will run from Lands End to John O’Groats – it promises to be quite an event.

Be pink – and be proud!

Katie Price pink Range Rover with private number plate

Friday, June 10th, 2011

Katie Price has this week added a pink Range Rover to her collection of pink vehicles.

And what’s more… she topped it off with a private number plate to reflect her relationship with Argetinian Leandro Penna. The registration number has KP for Katie’s initials, and LEO on the end of the number plate.

Katie has a whole bunch of pink cars and other vehicles, which include a scooter, and even a VW Beetle. No-one could ever describe Katie as a wallflower. And she certainly knows how to make a statement. In my view the pink paintwork and number plate all about Katie’s image branding.

I don’t think the press will have much difficulty spotting her out and about.

Just this week I’ve been talking about how popular pink cars have become in the last few years. I don’t doubt that a lot of (mostly) young women will be following in Katie’s footsteps with the pick cars and accessories, along with a PINK private number plate.

Pink number plates and cars in demand

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

This little pink Nissan Micra caught my eye, complete with pink number plate, in a local car park.

Whilst it’s not my cup of tea, pink cars seem to be on the increase. Looking back 5 years or so, I can’t recall seeing many (if any) pink cars on our roads. Lately, I’ve seen more and more of them… and there’s clearly a market for them.

This Nissan Micra Sport stands out in the car park, with it’s bold colour and distinctive private number plate making a real statement. And, if you look closely you’ll see it comes complete with pink furry dice! I’m guessing (from the number plate) that the owner’s name is also likely to be Nicola.

And some owners are going as far as to take an older car, and have the bodywork painted. We found a mini cabriolet which comes complete with a pink roll-cage, and decorated with dozens of pink and silver stars.

More and more people are seeing their cars as more than just an object that takes them from A to B… and using them to express their personality. And it’s now no longer just restricted to a private number plate!  As we’re seeing, cars are clearly no longer not just for the boys either.

And if there’s one guaranteed way to keep your boyfriend away from your car… paint it pink!

Pink number plates (similar to the one in the pic above) are still affordable, available from just £158+vat. With the DVLA’s transfer fees, and a pair of number plates, the whole package comes in at less than £300.
